We have always said that our first Emergency Room visit was going to be with Jonah. It was no fun to be proved right. This past Thursday, Jonah had a bad fall at home and broke his left arm. I mean, REALLY broke it. In fact, he didn't just fracture it in two places, he dislocated his elbow as well.
I am pretty good in an emergency, so when I realized there was a problem, I threw Georgia in bed for her nap (Samuel has just gone to school), grabbed a neighbour to watch her and headed to the clinic..after all, I could handle a broken arm. It was when they said he'd need surgery that I freaked out.
So, from the clinic we went to the hospital where they gave him some pain meds and called the pediatric orthopedic surgeon, who confirmed that yes, immediate surgery was required. We just had to wait for his stomach to be empty.
Let me tell you, that moment when they wheel your baby off to an operating room is one of the most horrible moments you will ever experience.
An hour and a half and two pins later, Jonah came out of the OR having gone through the procedure beautifully. We spent the night and the next day in the hospital, finally being able to go home on Friday afternoon. Boy was it good to be back in our own house!
The poor little guy was so brave through the whole thing, even through terrible pain. And let me tell you, he was terrified most of the time. I was so proud of him.
Thankfully, he is starting to feel much better (he is starting to cause trouble again, Jonah-style,this is how I know :D).
I have attached a few pics I shot with my cell phone camera while we were in the hospital. Hopefully the next pics and posts will be of happier circumstances!
